About
Two countries, one long rally — what Dink & Carreau is and why it exists.
Dink & Carreau is a bilingual publication about France and the United States — their cultures, their politics, their sports, and the long, entertaining rally between them.
The name comes from two small masterpieces of precision: the dink, pickleball’s softest and smartest shot, and the carreau, pétanque’s perfect strike that knocks the opponent’s boule away and takes its place. France gave the world pétanque; America gave the world pickleball. Both games are really about the same things: reading the ground, out-thinking your opponent, and arguing about it afterwards over drinks.
That’s what this publication does. We cover culture, news and politics, and sport on both sides of the Atlantic — in English and in French — with the occasional detour into the dictionary, because some words (mène, tailgate, buvette) deserve an explanation.
Dink & Carreau is independent. There are no analytics trackers and no advertising trackers on this site — see our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Our columnists write under pen names — a long and honorable publishing tradition. Articles are produced by the Dink & Carreau editorial team with the assistance of AI.
