Louisville Gets Loud: The APP's Weekend in Kentucky
The Humana APP Louisville Open runs October 15–18 with free admission, pro mixed doubles Friday, and Championship Sunday on ESPN+ — plus a free all-ages festival downtown.

Listen up. If you are anywhere near Louisville this weekend, get yourself to the Kentucky International Convention Center downtown. The Humana APP Louisville Open is on — October 15 through 18 — and general admission is free. Free. Courtesy of Humana. Your wallet stays in your pocket.
Today: mixed doubles and the Pro Am
Friday is the workhorse day, and it is a good one. The pros take the courts for mixed doubles, and alongside them runs the Local Legends Pro Am — local players teaming up with the pros. If you have never seen a Pro Am up close, here is the deal: it is where the sport feels human. The pros play loose, the locals play like their lives depend on it, and the crowd gets both.

You can watch live on the APP YouTube channel from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. Tune in, bring questions, watch the resets. Mixed doubles is where strategy shows up first — the third-shot decisions, the cross-court dinking, the speed-ups at the right moment.
Saturday and Sunday: doubles, then gold
Saturday belongs to women’s and men’s doubles. Full draws, full noise.
Sunday, October 18, is Championship Sunday — the gold-medal matches — on ESPN+. That is the big stage. If you only watch one day, make it Sunday. The finals tell you where the sport is headed: who dinks, who drives, who handles the pressure when the arena is full.
PickleY’all: the festival
Here is the part I love most. All weekend — October 16 and 17 — downtown Louisville hosts PickleY’all, a free all-ages pickleball festival, put on by Humana and the City of Louisville.

This is how you grow a sport. Not with TV contracts. With open courts, free paddles, kids running around, and a city deciding pickleball is worth a weekend. Bring a friend who has never played. That is the whole point.
The bigger picture: the PPA’s global schedule
Separate from Louisville, and worth knowing: the PPA Tour announced its 2026–27 global schedule this week. Twenty events. New stops in Chicago and Malibu. PPA Canada and PPA Italy. And a unified global ranking.
Let me be clear about what this is and is not. This is the PPA Tour — the rival tour to the APP — laying out its own future. It is not the APP’s announcement. Two tours, two schedules, one sport. That is professional pickleball right now: growing fast enough that the calendar itself is a competition.
Twenty events with a unified global ranking means players chase one ladder instead of two. That matters for the pros deciding where to play and for fans deciding what to follow. Watch how this shakes out. The tours are competing for the same players, the same sponsors, and the same eyeballs.
The coach’s take
Louisville this weekend is everything good about where pickleball is: free admission, a downtown festival, pros on the big courts and locals on the side courts, and Championship Sunday on national TV.
Get to a court. Watch the mixed doubles today. Come back Sunday for the finals. And if you are in Louisville, get downtown for PickleY’all — the sport is free this weekend, and free is how you fall in love with it.
